Songs that have influenced me during my life

  1. ROY AYERS - RUNNING AWAY
"MY RAVING DAYS. Roy Ayres has been an big influence in my musical development , I’ve always loved his Fender Rhodes & Vibraphone Sounds as well as his strange chord arrangements, I also loved dancing to his grooves, smooth vocals, excellent musicians.Yeh!"
  2. LONNIE LISTON SMITH - EXPANSIONS
"MY SPACED OUT DAYZ, Acoustic bass grooves did it for me with the accurate percussions, and the smooth vocals….a Classic, the arrangements, WOW!"
  3. REVELATION - WITH YOU BOY
"PEEL OFF THE WALLPAPER MUSIC. All I can say is Rubdown because that’s all we were doing back then in those private parties, that throbbing 80s bass sound through those big wardrobe sized. speakers. Holding on to a nice girl for 3mins hoping that it’s a 12” long mix. Longer the track longer the rub."
  4. BOB MARLEY - NATURAL MYSTIC
"I UNDERSTOOD RIDDIM SECTION. Tight Reggae music at it’s best, this tune helped me to understand some of the rules and regulations of Reggae music, the melodies, the organ bubble, the rhythm section, lead guitar, crisp vocals and of course the one drop. Wow."
  5. ASWAD - BACK TO AFRICA
"SHEER COOL VIBES, (MY 1ST RUB DOWN). Smooth British Reggae music at it best by the UKs best reggae musicians at the time. Classy tune by these talented guys, Smooth vocals & harmonies. This band got me thinking……"
  6. THE JONES GIRL - THE FEELINGS KILLING ME
"I UNDERSOOD HARMONIES AS THEY SHOULD BE. They were spotted after working with on a U.S. tour with Diana Ross Then were pluck by everyone who was famous. Three sisters who knew each others voices just take a listen if you can. Class."
  7. THE EMOTIONS - FEELING IS A FEELING
"PURE ARRANGEMENT. Once again perfection with ex Earth wind & fire harmonies, have a listen then you’ll see why they were chosen to back this great band. E.g. Boogie Wonderland. "
  8. VARIOUS ARTISTS - AFRICAN DUB CHAPTER 3&4
"UNDERSTOOD ANOTHER DUB MENTALITY. These albums showed me all I needed to know about the other side of dub. I thought at the time that they were just B sides put together for people who liked b sides like me. Great use of old analogue effects, I learnt a few things from here."
  9. DENNIS BROWN - BABY DON’T DO IT
"A CLASSIC SWITCH FOR ROCK STEADY TO LOVERS. Here I saw a progression from rock steady to lovers, a totally cool and crisp production."
  10. JOHN HOLT - MR BOJANGLES
"CLASSIC STRINGS ARRANGEMENT FOR REGGAE. As an ex violinist myself, I understood what happens when you merge a live reggae band and an Orchestra together, pure bliss. Love of the common people etc, made people who did not like reggae take note of this pleasant style of music. So string arrangers were brought in on sessions to write & conduct the musicians to accompany the smooth crooner voice of the legendary John Holt. Rhythm section at its best. "
